Who is therapy for?

Therapy is for anyone who seeks to understand themselves and their emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships better. It is for anyone who wants to live a more fulfilling and purposeful life.     ↑ Return to top

Starting therapy

It is very important to find a good fit with your therapist so that you feel safe exploring things that may be difficult to talk about. I hope the information on this site has been helpful for you in assessing whether I might be a good choice for you. If you’re ready to take the next step, then I encourage you to schedule a free 20 minutes phone consultation with me. You will get a sense of who I am, what I’m like and you are free to ask any questions you may have. It also gives me a chance to ask about your situation so I can assess you needs. If I don’t feel that I can help you, I will tell you up front. I encourage everyone to speak to several counselors before making a decision.

Before your first visit, please download the forms below. It is very important that you fill out and bring it with you or email it to me prior to our session. There is a fair amount of information needed and it may take a while to fill out all this information. Filling it out before the session will save us significant amount of time to focus on other important issues.

Fees and insurance

Your initial 20 min phone consultation is free of charge.

Fees are based on the usual and customary rates for psychologists in this area. Payment is expected at the time of service and is accepted in the form of cash, check or credit card. Please feel free to ask me about fees during our initial phone consultation.

There is no charge for sessions cancelled with at least 48 hours notice. Late cancellations are subject to payment in full.

I do not accept insurance at this time and am considered an out-of-network provider, with the exception of those with Lyra and Modern Health benefits. However, many insurance companies accept a “superbill” for therapy services for partial reimbursement. I’m happy to supply the require documentation. You can call your insurance company and ask them what percentage they will reimburse you for seeing an out-of-network provider.     ↑ Return to top

What is your cancellation policy?

Your time slot is reserved just for you. If you unable to attend a scheduled session, please make sure to cancel by phone or email at least 48 hours in advance. Otherwise, you will be charged for the full rate of the session.     ↑ Top

How long are sessions?

Sessions are usually 50 minutes in length. Longer sessions may be appropriate if deemed necessary at an additional cost.     ↑ Top

How long does therapy take?

The length depends on what brings you to therapy. Early on, we will work together to clearly identify your main concerns and goals.  This will allow us to get a sense of how long treatment may take.     ↑ Top

How often will I need to come?

Therapy works most effectively with consistent attendance. I typically see clients once a week, but frequency may vary based on your concerns and goals.     ↑ Top

What makes therapy work?

  • Creating a trusting relationship between us, so you can feel safe exploring vulnerable areas

  • Being willing to share freely in session, including the experience you are having with me in the moment and talking about things that may be making it difficult to come to therapy

  • Establishing a shared view of the concerns and goals for therapy and assessing progress against those goals

  • Attending therapy consistently

  • Completing assigned homework and practicing newly acquired skills between sessions

  • Understanding that the time needed to heal and grow is variable and depends on the nature of the challenges you bring to therapy
